Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has strongly criticized Saudi Arabia and the US over submitting to the UN a draft resolution which repeats Washington's plotting accusation against Tehran.
“Saudi Arabia and the US two days ago presented a draft resolution on terrorism to the UN General Assembly and we were informed on its contents,” IRIB quoted Salehi as saying on Wednesday.
Salehi said the Islamic Republic welcomes the resolution in most parts and that Tehran might even undersign the resolution, but insisted that one or two paragraphs in the document repeating assassination accusations against Iran be omitted first.
On October 11, the US Justice Department accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington, Adel al-Jubeir, with help from a man suspected of being a member of a Mexican drug cartel.
Tehran has rejected the media hype as Washington's attempt to deflect attention from the anti-corporatism protests which have been rocking the US since mid-September.
Salehi recalled Iran's efforts to create an atmosphere of cordiality, peace, and stability in its relations with Saudi Arabia and said Riyadh's alliance with the US was detrimental to its image among Muslim nations.
“Saudi politicians are experienced and, with regard to our efforts for the two countries' closeness, we hope that the Saudis pay particular attention to their political measures so that they will not complicate the situation any further,” he added.
